UNCONVENTIONAL TRAFFIC STOP IN TOWN OF MERRILL ENDS WITH ARREST, MULTIPLE CHARGES

TOWN OF MERRILL – A traffic stop completed by a Lincoln County Deputy in the Town of Merril last Sunday took an interesting turn. The deputy had initiated the stop of a vehicle without license plates, and then a second vehicle pulled behind the squad car. A second deputy arriving on the scene spoke with the driver of the second vehicle. An investigation including the services of Merrill K9 showed a positive alert, prompting a search of both vehicles revealing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the second vehicle.

Signs of impairment were evident to the deputy who was trained in drug recognition. Sobriety testing led to the arrest of the 39-yr-old female driver of the second vehicle for first offense OWI with a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a probation violation.
