Lincoln County Sherrif’s Report Week Ending July 6

Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 70 traffic stops and 16 security checks. There were 11 calls involving cars hitting deer. On Friday July 4th, a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on near CTH K on Lake Pesobic Rd in the Town of Merrill. While speaking with the 26-yr-old driver from Merrill, the deputy noticed signs of impairment. WAUSAU – Food security is getting a boost in Wisconsin’s new state budget. Governor Tony Evers visited Wausau Monday, where he announced $10 million is being set aside to fight hunger statewide. Speaking at the Community Partners Campus, Evers said food insecurity became a bigger concern during the pandemic—and remains a top priority. MARATHON COUNTY “HELMET HERO” SAFETY INITIATIVE IN FULL SWING

A safety campaign is active once again in Marathon County this summer, reminding kids to wear helmets while biking, scootering, or skateboarding. The “Helmet Hero” initiative is a joint effort by Aspirus Health, Safe Kids Marathon County, and local law enforcement agencies. As an incentive, groups will be teaming up with Wausau and Metro Bay Police Department to be on the lookout for kids wearing their helmets properly while riding through the community. In an effort to keep the blood supply strong during the typically low summer donor turnouts, the Red Cross is strongly urging residents to donate blood now. Summer vacations and holidays tend to hamper efforts to solicit donors, as well as the seasonal severe weather.
