St. Louis–based Schnuck’s Markets announced Tuesday that its newly formed holding company, 1939 Group Inc., will acquire all outstanding shares of Skogen’s Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers Inc. The purchase includes Festival’s 51 Wisconsin grocery stores, with shares held by its employee stock ownership plan, as well as Hometown’s nine smaller markets across the state — including Dave’s County Market on East First Street in Merrill.1939 Group says the stores will keep their existing names, which are well established and respected in their communities.
