On Tuesday March 17th, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a reckless driver entering Lincoln County on County Highway W in the Town of Pine River. Initial reports stated the driver and passenger were involved in a physical altercation and the vehicle in question was weaving all over the road. When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle stopped where County Highway W meets State Highway 64. Ahead of the Tuesday April 7th Spring Election, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles is reminding residents that they must have proper ID in order to vote. A driver license or State issued ID are acceptable, while a federally compliant REAL ID is not required. Military or student ID cards are valid, per the Wisconsin Elections Commission. The Merrill Fire Department responded to 43 calls last week, bringing the total for 2026 to 513. There were 37 EMS calls. There was a structure fire on W 10th Street on Friday that was confined to a cooking appliance. While there was brief evidence of fire, it quickly subsided. All occupants at the residence were safely evacuated.
