The City of Merrill is inviting residents and businesses to show off their patriotic spirit with a community-wide decorating contest celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Participants are encouraged to decorate their homes, yards or storefronts in red, white and blue, with prizes awarded in several categories, including a Neighborhood Spirit Award for blocks or neighborhoods that decorate together. A self-guided driving tour will highlight participating properties, and photos will be posted on Facebook where the public can vote for their favorites. Merrill celebrated our Nation’s 250th Birthday in style over the 4th of July weekend, as locals, visitors and vacationers enjoyed community activities focused on remembering the sacrifices made by those who secured our freedom. Shoppers flooded the City’s East Side downtown section on Friday, where businesses took part in a “Red, White and Blue Sale” event. Banker’s Square provided a perfect backdrop for all who participated.
