LINCOLN COUNTY MAN DEEMED COMPETENT TO STAND TRIAL FOR MARCH 2025 MURDER

A competency hearing was held at the Lincoln County Courthouse on Wednesday for 27-year old Austin Stevenson, who was accused of killing his father in March of 2025. Stevenson has been found competent to stand trial given agreement from defense attorneys and state prosecutors regarding a recent medical report. The trial has been rescheduled to the summer of 2027. WORK UNDERWAY TO RESTORE LINCOLN COUNTY COURTHOUSE CLOCK

Work is underway to restore the clock atop the Lincoln County Courthouse in Merrill, bringing new life to a piece of the city’s history that has been frozen at 11:08 for about a year. Crews recently began removing the clock’s mechanical components so they can be transported to Ohio for repair. The work is being handled by clock specialist Phil Wright of South Charleston, Ohio, with assistance from Stacy Wagler of Rhinelander. A Lincoln County man is facing multiple charges following a dispute with his adult son along Highway 51 on Monday, September 29. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Kurt Hungerford allegedly pushed his son, Matthew, from the driver’s seat and into a traffic lane during an argument over a flat tire. A high-speed pursuit involving multiple stolen vehicles and law enforcement agencies across several Wisconsin counties ended on East Main Street in Merrill Thursday afternoon with a crash, a seriously injured sheriff’s deputy and the arrest of a 44-year-old Antigo man.
