NEW PFAS ADVISORY ISSUED IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN BY DNR AND DHS
TOWN OF STELLA – Due to PFAS contamination, Wisconsin DNR Officials and the Department of Health Services announced new advisories on fish and game consumption for the Town of Stella in Oneida County. Included in a “Do Not Eat” advisory are ALL fish species in the Moen Chain of Lakes, Sunset Lake, Starks Creek, and Snowden Lake. Elevated levels of PFOS, a type of PFAS were discovered in the tissues of fish. Recent guidance also advises the consumption of only one meal per month from deer that were harvested within a 5-mile radius of Stella’s town hall. Due to significant PFAS levels NO liver from deer in this area should be eaten. Also issued was a consumption advisory for mallards and wood ducks harvested on Green Bay because of PFAS contamination. More information can be found on the DNR website.
