DNR URGES RESIDENTS TO USE LOCAL FIREWOOD ONLY

The Department of Natural Resources is reminding residents to use local firewood this fall, in an effort to avoid the spread of invasive species. Firewood is a prime carrier of spongy moth, emerald ash borer, and invasive fungi. Untreated firewood that is removed from the the tree where it was harvested can contain fungi that later emerge to attack trees at the new site. Per the DNR, best practice is to purchase firewood from a local distributor rather than transporting it from another source.
