Forestry Revitalization Act Clears Way for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Plant in Northern Wisconsin

Last Thursday, Tony Evers signed into law The Forestry Revitalization Act. The legislation, authored by Senate President Mary Felzkowski and Representative Chanz Green, is the largest economic development initiative in Wisconsin’s Northern region in state history. It paves the way for tax credits to be utilized by a plant for converting woody biomass to sustainable aviation fuel.

The economic impact across the Northwoods promises to be significant. Figures in the billions with thousands of direct jobs added have been projected surrounding the development of the new plant, with many other new employment opportunities resulting in related industries.

Following the bill signing, Mary Felzkowski praised the measure, calling it a major victory for both the Northwoods and the state’s forest products industry.

“This legislation will be transformative for the Northwoods economy and the forest products industry across Wisconsin. I’m thrilled that, after months of hard work from all our Northwoods legislators, we were able to get this across the finish line. It’s a great day for the Northwoods.”

Global demand for sustainable aviation fuel continues to rise, with the European Union set to require that 70 percent of aviation fuel be sustainable by 2050, while airlines in the United States are also beginning to adopt similar standards.
