The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to recent check fraud or “check washing” complaints. Check washing is a type of financial crime where a criminal steals a check that has been made out to another party, often from the mail, and uses chemicals or other means to “erase” the ink allowing them to re-draft the check to themselves or another entity. Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 70 traffic stops and 16 security checks. There were 11 calls involving cars hitting deer. On Friday July 4th, a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on near CTH K on Lake Pesobic Rd in the Town of Merrill. While speaking with the 26-yr-old driver from Merrill, the deputy noticed signs of impairment. Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 30 traffic stops and 17 security checks. There were seven calls involving cars hitting deer. On Thursday, deputies were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle crash with injuries in the area of STH 64 and Monteray Dr. The vehicle involved had rolled over and the 48-yr-old female driver from Merrill was ejected and found lying in the ditch. On Saturday a deputy on patrol completed a stop of a UTV on STH 107 in the Town of Merrill for operating on a prohibited highway. LINCOLN COUNTY – Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 47 traffic stops, and 31 security checks. There were 11 calls involving cars hitting deer. On Wednesday 5/14 a 911 call was received regarding a one vehicle crash with injuries on CTH C in the Town of Schley. Deputies arriving on the scene made contact with the 63-yr-old Wausau man who was driving the vehicle. He was unable to recreate the events leading up to the crash and was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.

On Monday April 14, a 67-yr-old male driver from Tomahawk was traveling N/B on CTH E in the Town of Bradley when he struck a deer.
