The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to recent check fraud or “check washing” complaints. Check washing is a type of financial crime where a criminal steals a check that has been made out to another party, often from the mail, and uses chemicals or other means to “erase” the ink allowing them to re-draft the check to themselves or another entity. On Friday July 4th, a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on near CTH K on Lake Pesobic Rd in the Town of Merrill. LINCOLN COUNTY – Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 47 traffic stops, and 31 security checks. There were 11 calls involving cars hitting deer. On Wednesday 5/14 a 911 call was received regarding a one vehicle crash with injuries on CTH C in the Town of Schley. Deputies arriving on the scene made contact with the 63-yr-old Wausau man who was driving the vehicle. He was unable to recreate the events leading up to the crash and was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment.
