In a game heard right here on WJMT and wjmtfm.com on Monday, the Merrill Post 46 Bluejay boys; baseball team saw its record fall to 0-5 with a 10-6 loss to the Marshfield Post 54 Blue Devils on the road at Jack Hackman Park.
The Bluejays were paced by AmericInn Player of the Game Korey Page (pictured) , who went 2-3 with a walk and two RBI’s as well as relieving Bluejay starting pitcher Eric Grunenwald in the fourth inning. Unfortunately the Jays made a crucial error in the Marshfield half of the first inning that allowed the Blue Devils to take a 5-0 by the end of that frame. The Blue Devils added two more runs in the bottom of the third after the Jays scored three runs in the first half of that inning on a mammoth two run homer over the right field fence. Although the Jays answered with two more runs in the top of the fourth, the Blue Devils continued to score, adding a single tally in the fifth and two more in the sixth to seal the victory. Grunenwald took the loss, while he and his teammates out-hit the Blue Devils twelve to nine on the night.
The boys have conference action on Wednesday before hosting the Crandon, Northwoods, and Rhinelander American Legion squads in the Art Perkins Memorial Legion tournament this Friday and Saturday at Athletic Park. You can hear all the action Friday night starting at 6:45 and Saturday at 12:15 and 5:15 as well as watching all three games on WJMT-TV on YouTube.
