Bluejays Win, Lose to Wausau in American Legion Softball Regional Tournament

In a pair of games heard right here on WJMT, wjmtfm.com, and the WJMT app, the Merrill Post 46 girls’ softball squad defeated the Wausau Post 10 Bulldogs in the semi-final game suspended Monday due to tornado warnings 9-4 before succumbing to the Bulldogs in in the first of two finals games 17-5 in a five inning contest last night at Sunnyvale Park in Wausau. The loss sets up a final game in the tournament Wednesday at Sunnyvale Park, with coverage beginning at 4:45 with the Nicolet Bank pre-game show and first pitch at 5:00.

In the completion of Monday’s suspended game, the Bluejays attack was paced by AmericInn Player of the Game Allie Kohnhorst (pictured), who drove in three runs with a single and a double. Bluejay starting pitcher Emmie Steinagel earned the victory, with Abbie Krueger pitching the final two innings.

In the second game, Wausau Post 10 scored three in the top of the first off starter Maddie Barker, who gave way to Abbie Kruger. The Bluejays took the lead with five in the bottom of the frame, but it was all Wausau after that, as the Bulldogs score 14 unanswered runs before the Blue Jays managed a single tally in the bottom of the fifth before the game was shortened by the 10 run mercy rule. Krueger, who was followed by Maddie Barker and Allie Kohnhorst in the circle, took the loss. Post 46’s offense was led by AmericInn Player of the Game Reese Kaminski (also pictured), who drove in two runs in the five run first inning.
