Highway Construction Continues Across Lincoln and Marathon Counties
Motorists traveling through Lincoln and Marathon Counties will encounter several ongoing Wisconsin Department of Transportation construction projects this week, including highway closures, lane restrictions and interchange ramp closures.
Lincoln County
WIS 107 — Wilderness Drive to County S
Crews are beginning paving work on WIS 107 between Wilderness Drive and County S as part of a project that includes repaving the roadway and repairing or replacing culverts.
WIS 107 is closed to through traffic. The posted detour uses WIS 64, U.S. 51 and County S.
The project is scheduled to continue through October 15.
WIS 17 — WIS 64 to Big Hay Meadow Creek
Crews will continue milling and begin paving operations on WIS 17 between WIS 64 and Big Hay Meadow Creek.
The project includes replacing the asphalt surface, concrete curb and gutter, installing centerline rumble strips and adding protective thermoplastic coating at snowmobile crossings.
WIS 17 is closed to through traffic. The detour follows WIS 64, U.S. 51 and U.S. 8.
Work is scheduled through November 6, with additional work planned next spring and summer.
Marathon County
WIS 29 — WIS 97 to Purple Martin Lane
Crews are continuing work on WIS 29, including concrete pavement replacement, curb and gutter work and asphalt shoulder paving.
The project also includes guardrail replacement and replacement of a culvert beneath westbound WIS 29.
Motorists should expect eastbound and westbound lane closures. The County H interchange ramp remains closed through October 30, although the County H through lanes are now open.
WIS 29 and U.S. 51 — Foxglove Road to Bridge Street
Work also continues along WIS 29 and U.S. 51 in the Wausau area.
Motorists should expect various daytime lane closures, along with nighttime rolling closures or restrictions to a single lane. The center lane of U.S. 51 is closed between the WIS 29 interchanges, requiring motorists to use the outside lane when accessing exit ramps.
Several local roads and service ramps are also affected.
WisDOT says several ramps are expected to reopen October 7, while additional ramp closures are scheduled to begin that same day. Motorists traveling through the construction areas are encouraged to slow down, watch for changing traffic patterns and allow additional time to reach their destinations.
