SEVERE WEATHER FRIDAY IMPACTS SEVERAL LOCAL COMMUNITIES
A very strong weather system that made its way across portions of the upper Midwest on Friday generated multiple Tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings across Wisconsin.
In the Northcentral portions of the state, the National Weather Service in Green Bay confirmed a tornado in Mosinee late afternoon, and then at 5:08 PM issued another severe weather statement stating a confirmed tornado was located 11 miles northeast of Weston, 14 miles east of Wausau. Additional unconfirmed reports from community members focused on a possible tornado near the Central Wisconsin Airport, followed by reports of damage in Kronenwetter and Weston. The storm continued northeast towards hwy 29 east eventually making its way to Ringle, where it appears the most severe damage occurred. There was emergency scanner traffic stating multiple homes incurred heavy damage including one where a roof was torn off, and downed power lines. There were also reports of a funnel cloud sighting southeast of Tomahawk.
As of 8 PM Friday evening, Wisconsin Public Service reported over 3,600 customers were without power, 2,300 of those in Marathon County.
