MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT: DRIVER ARRESTED FOR OWI 6TH OFFENSE
The Merrill Police Department responded to eleven incidents during the week ending May 3rd. Officers conducted approximately 20 traffic stops and 54 security checks.
On Sunday, a caller from Marathon County alerted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office that an intoxicated driver was en route to Merrill. A Merrill Police Officer located the vehicle and driver at the driver’s home shortly after the call was received. The suspect had in fact been drinking, and was in violation of an open felony bond, and there were pending charges from a separate, unrelated event. He was placed under arrest for bail jumping and disorderly conduct for the previous event.
Other activity included an arrest for a probation warrant, one report of fraud, and two hit and run crashes – one where a vehicle had struck a fire hydrant. There were three reports of theft, one of those where a caller reported their lawn mower was stolen, however it was parked by the curb and assumed to be free for the taking. There was one arrest for OWI sixth offense. Three motorcyclists were cited for speeding when observed by an officer after reports stated they were racing down Thielman Street.
