Bluejay Legion Girls Trounce Marathon 10-3
In a game heard on WJMT and wjmtfm.com, the Merrill Post 46 girls’ softball team trounced the Marathon Red Raider girls’ 10-3 on the road in a game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule,
The Bluejay girls scored three in the top of the first inning, paced by AmericInn Player of the Game Jacey Lyon (pictured). Lyon tripled in shortstop Allie Kohn horst and then scored on a groundout. The Raiders responded with two solo home runs in the bottom of the first to close the gap to 3-2 before the Bluejays added three in the top of the third and four more in the fourth, paced again by Lyon’s double and single respectively. She then came in to relieve Bluejay starter Maddie Barker and earned the win with three scoreless innings in the circle.
The Merrill American Legion girls return to action Wednesday night, hosting Wittenberg-Birnamwood at the MARC. Coverage on WJMT, wjmtfm.com, and WJMT-TV on YouTube will begin with the Nicolet Bank pre-game show at 6:45 and first pitch at 7:00. Boys’ coverage of the Art Perkins Memorial Legion tournament will start at 6:45 on Friday and resume at 12:15 and 5:15 Saturday on all three venues.
