The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received an Apple Crash Detection report on Sunday December 14 alerting them to a possible car accident on US Highway 8 near Sheldon Road in the Town of Bradley. NEW LEGISLATION REQUIRES WISCONSIN SCHOOLS PROVIDE PROMPT NOTIFICATION OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT

Earlier this month Democratic Governor Tony Evers signed Republican-authored legislation into law that requires Wisconsin schools to notify parents of sexual misconduct. Schools must notify a student’s parent or guardian promptly should their child become the alleged victim of a sexual offense by a school employee or volunteer. NORTHWOODS SNOWMOBILE TRAILS OPENING DESPITE WARMER TEMPS

Though temperatures have risen well above freezing, today will mark the opening of another snowmobile trail system. The Vilas County Forestry, Recreation and Land Department has announced the Vilas County trail system is open effective 8 a.m. The eleven clubs that make up the County’s Snowmobile Alliance who made the decision noted the opening had been delayed due to damage resulting from the late November winter storms. FIRST AVIAN FLU OUTBREAK IN WISCONSIN DISCOVERED IN DODGE COUNTY CATTLE

DODGE COUNTY – On Sunday, the Wisconsin State AgriculturE Department announced an Avian Flu outbreak in a herd of cows in Dodge County. It’s the first time the illness has been discovered in the state. Officials have placed the farm on quarantine, separating those animals who are sick so they can be treated. MERRILL – During the week ending December 14, the Merrill Police Department responded to eight incidents, while officers conducted approximately 18 traffic stops and 23 security checks. WISCONSIN DOJ INTRODUCES INITIATIVE TO ADDRESS OVERDOSE DEATHS

The Wisconsin Department of Justice has introduced the Overdose Death Initiative. The DOJ says the initiative’s mission is to investigate opioid overdoses and deaths, with a goal of identifying and apprehending individuals directly responsible for distributing opioids that resulted in deaths. Attorney General Josh Kaul says the initiative shows how teamwork in overdose investigations can make a difference. To date, 21 cases have been investigated, leading to 58 arrests and 10 reckless homicide charges.
