LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department is reminding residents that given the recent increase in power outages, homeowners need to keep in mind the potential of carbon monoxide poisoning. The use of alternative heating devices can create an environment where indoor conditions quickly become compromised, leading to headaches and dizziness. While these symptoms could be mistaken for other illnesses, they need to be taken seriously. It’s very important to have a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector installed along with your smoke detector.

MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT WEEK ENDING MARCH 30

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 6 incidents last week. There were two reports of unsafe or inattentive driving, one where a juvenile motorist was attempting to take a selfie while operating her vehicle. There was one instance of possession of illegal substances in a parked car that led to the arrest of both individuals in the vehicle, including a probation hold, and one instance of OWI during a traffic stop involving an ATV operator who attempted to elude the officer. LINCOLN COUNTY – Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 29 traffic stops, 33 security checks, and there were four calls involving cars hitting deer. There were 8 reports of unsafe driving. On Monday March 24th, deputies were dispatched to the N1000 block of Four Mile Dr in the Town of Tomahawk for a reported disturbance in progress. MARCH GOES OUT LIKE A LION, CAUSING POWER OUTAGES AND WIDESPREAD DAMAGE

The weekend storms that made their way across the area left a trail of damage across area roads, trees and power lines. State Hwy 64 in Pine River was closed Sunday morning through early afternoon due to a downed power line and an electrical transformer fire just outside the Pine River Fire Department. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles is alerting motorists of attempts by scammers to hit your pocket with fake toll charges. Phishing attempts through text messages claim to originate from WisDot, hoping to lure consumers to click on fraudulent links and share personal information. EARLY SPRING ICE STORM CAUSES POWER OUTAGES ACROSS THE NORTHWOODS

The early spring wintry mix that hit the Northwoods late Saturday night through Sunday night caused widespread power outages due to downed tree branches and power lines. As of 11PM on Sunday,Wisconsin Public Service reported over 56,000 customers across 17 counties were without power. DISORDERLY CONDUCT REPORT IN MERRILL LEADS TO ADDITIONAL CHARGES

MERRILL – On Saturday March 22 at 6:55 PM, Merrill Police officers responded to a call regarding a disturbance at a local bar. A male party had entered the establishment and demanded that a call be made to his landlord before he eventually left. Upon locating the man who was intoxicated, officers identified him and he was arrested for disorderly conduct.
