MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 10 incidents last week. There was one call regarding a domestic disturbance, and one report of damage to public property. A traffic stop resulted in a driver operating with a revoked license being arrested for felony bail jumping. There was one call regarding a vehicle getting stuck in a car wash. WPS WARNS OF NEW PHONE SCAM TARGETING NORTHERN WISCONSIN CUSTOMERS

Local residents are being urged to stay alert for a new phone scam targeting utility customers. Wisconsin Public Service warns of a sudden increase in scammers posing as WPS representatives and attempting to collect payments. Calls have been reported across northeast and north central Wisconsin. Scammers typically use familiar tactics, such as threatening customers with disconnection if they refuse to make a payment.
