MAYO TRIAL DELAYED FOLLOWING SPRING ELECTION RESULTS

There won’t be a trial in mid-July for a Wausau man accused of attempted homicide. Desmond Mayo was scheduled for an eight-day trial beginning July 13th, but that was canceled on Tuesday after one of his attorneys, Michael Hughes, won the spring election for Marathon County Branch 3 Judge, making him ineligible to handle the case. The 32-year-old is accused of shooting another person in February 20-23, then fleeing the state. The victim managed to drive themselves to the hospital and identified Mayo as the shooter. TB Scott Library Hosts ‘Read to a Dog’ Program

On Wednesday, Merrill’s TB Scott Free Library hosted its annual Read to a Dog Program. Therapy Dog Tucker and his handler, Mark Meahlos were on site as children of all ages came out to share a story with the beloved pup. Tucker and Mark frequently pay visits to Merrill Schools. Three levels of obedience needed to be achieved prior to Tucker’s job certification – Canine good citizen, community canine tests, and a therapy dog program. ONE VEHICLE ROLLS OVER IN MERRILL TWO-CAR CRASH

Tuesday afternoon shortly after 3:30 pm, Merrill Fire Department units were dispatched to the intersection of Center and Main streets in Merrill for a motor vehicle crash that included a vehicle roll over, requiring extrication. First responders from Medical unit 61 attended to the patient in the rolled vehicle upon arrival. The patient self-extricated from the vehicle with minimal assistance.
