MAYO TRIAL DELAYED FOLLOWING SPRING ELECTION RESULTS
There won’t be a trial in mid-July for a Wausau man accused of attempted homicide.
Desmond Mayo was scheduled for an eight-day trial beginning July 13th, but that was canceled on Tuesday after one of his attorneys, Michael Hughes, won the spring election for Marathon County Branch 3 Judge, making him ineligible to handle the case. The 32-year-old is accused of shooting another person in February 20-23, then fleeing the state. The victim managed to drive themselves to the hospital and identified Mayo as the shooter. Marshals caught up with him a few weeks later outside of Chicago and brought him back to Marathon County to face charges.
The July 13th date will now be a motion hearing. Mayo has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being held on bond.
