No Smoke Detectors In Place At Thursday AM Duplex Fire in Wausau

Investigation into the cause of a duplex fire in Wausau will most likely take a few days given the extent of the damage done to the structure. Apparently the duplex didn’t have functioning smoke detectors. It’s believed that a bystander actually woke up 1 of the people inside. There is currently no suspicion of foul play. The fire likely started in the lower level living room. There was heavy smoke damage in the upper unit. When Wausau Fire Department crews arrived on the scene around 7:30 AM yesterday (Thursday, May 9th) morning, flames were shooting from the front door. No persons were injured as a result of the blaze, however 1 cat did not survive. Determination as to whether or not the structure can be salvaged will come from the City Inspector.
