MERRILL – Family and friends gathered at Merrill’s Athletic Park on Wednesday evening, July 31 to watch the Merrill B and M Solutions 14U Baseball team compete in the 2024 league championship against a formidable Wausau Elks squad. Storm damage has caused issues for WJMT, affecting both of our on-air signals, as well as our streaming signal and our overall audio quality. Lincoln County Opioid Task Force July 23 Meeting Notes

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Opioid Task Force met on Tuesday July 23, 2024. Erin Ray of the County Health Department presented the recently created Community Task Force Member Interest Survey. Discussion took place regarding the best mode of distributing the survey to the community. Also discussed was partnering with the Northwoods Coalition, which is a collection of community coalitions dedicated to substance use prevention. A motion to apply for membership was tabled until the next meeting, which is scheduled for August 14, 2024.

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, July 16 at the County Service Center. During the meeting, Sara Guild was appointed to the Central Wisconsin Development Fund Board, and William Plautz was recognized for 10 years of service with the county highway commission. Healthy Minds For Lincoln County Coalition July 19 Meeting Notes

The Healthy Minds for Lincoln County Coalition met on Friday July 19. Public Health Educator Kristin Bath provided updates regarding Lincoln County suicide data from 2017 through 2023. There were 40 deaths resulting from suicide through the period, 83% of those were males. Bath shared that the department recently completed a 988-suicide prevention and lifeline campaign in June targeting middle aged/older men. Governor Evers Visits Tripoli, Discusses Funds Allocated to County Highway YY Reconstruction

TRIPOLI – Governor Tony Evers visited the town of Tripoli On Thursday, July 25. Evers and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Assistant Deputy Secretary Joel Nilsestuen made a stop on County Hwy YY to discuss the roughly $3.5 million allocated to Lincoln and Price counties to be used to revamp the county road. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Report Week Ending July 28

LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 42 traffic stops last week. There were 40 security checks. Deputies responded to seven calls involving cars hitting deer and one where a car hit a coyote. Deputies followed up on eight calls for unsafe driving, including a complaint of a driver swerving all over the road on USH 51 near the Town of Pine River. The deputy noticed signs of impairment, and following the completion of field sobriety tests the 27-year-old Gleason woman was taken into custody for first offense OWI.

Merrill Police Department Report Week Ending July 28

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to nine incidents last week. One call was received for disorderly conduct resulting in a male suspect being booked into the Lincoln County jail. There was one report of a fire involving a downed power line.  One call was received for forgery fraud, where an individual was scammed out of approximately $3,000 worth of gift cards.
