WEEKEND FIRES AT FACILITIES IN MARATHON COUNTY LEAD TO RESPONSES FROM MULTIPLE AGENCIES

Marathon County fire crews were dispatched to two facility fires over the weekend. 

On Friday evening, multiple departments responded to a small fire on the east side of Weston Power Plant, operated by Wisconsin Public Service. The Kronenwetter, Mosinee, and Riverside Fire Departments were all on scene to battle the blaze which was active as of 10:00 PM and was later contained, per a Kronenwetter Fire Department official.

Another incident at Crystal Finishing Systems Inc Saturday evening drew response from Mosinee, Kronenwetter, Riverside, Safer, City of Wausau, Ringle, and Town of Hull fire departments, with assistance from WPS and the Salvation Army. The fire was reported at 5:15 PM, as smoke was observed coming from the northeast section of the building.  The fire was contained with no major exterior damage, though interior damage remains unknown. Crews cleared the scene by 8:30 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.
