BIPARTISAN EFFORTS SCORE BIG TAX WIN FOR WISCONSITES

State Representative Calvin Callahan has announced that following months of negotiations a deal has been reached between Wisconsin Assembly and Senate Republicans and Governor Tony Evers regarding the state’s $2.4 billion budget surplus.

Wisconsin taxpayers can look forward to $862 million in in direct support in the form of tax relief. Individuals will receive $300 income tax refunds, while married couples filing jointly can expect a $600 refund. Additionally, $300 million will be allocated for general school aid, with another $300 million to allocated for special education and $50 million in property tax relief for technical colleges.

Callahan reflected on the major win for constituents, stating “A lot of time and effort went into this; I am incredibly pleased that families in the 35th will finally receive much-needed economic relief. This deal provides well over a billion dollars in tax relief, in addition to the significant tax relief created by eliminating taxes on tips and overtime. This is a major win for friends and neighbors of the 35th Assembly District who have struggled to keep up with rising costs”. He also touted bipartisanship, pointing out that the deal is ” a sign of hope that both parties can come together to do what’s right for the people of Wisconsin.”
