Milwaukee Brewers Win First World Series Championship in Franchise History

MILWAUKEE — After more than five decades of waiting, the Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history. Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game Five Wednesday night, closing out the series and bringing a long-awaited championship home to Wisconsin.

The Brewers’ victory came in the franchise’s 58th season, ending a championship drought that dates to the team’s move to Milwaukee in 1970. Their previous World Series appearance came in 1982, when they lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

Misiorowski sets the tone

Jacob Misiorowski delivered a dominant performance on the mound, allowing just two hits and no runs over five and two-thirds innings. The young right-hander earned the win before leaving the game with a right calf cramp. Milwaukee’s bullpen took it from there. Closer Trevor Megill recorded the final six outs, earning a two-inning save to secure the championship.

Misiorowski has emerged as one of baseball’s premier young pitchers and is considered a leading candidate for the National League Cy Young Award.

Contreras earns World Series MVP

Catcher William Contreras was named the World Series Most Valuable Player, becoming the first player in Brewers history to receive the honor. Contreras hit .381 during the five-game series, drove in four runs and played a major role in guiding Milwaukee’s pitching staff. His defensive contributions also helped limit Tampa Bay’s running game.

The Brewers received contributions throughout the lineup, including from rookie Cooper Pratt, who drove in two runs in the deciding game.

A championship decades in the making

The title caps a remarkable season for Milwaukee, which finished the regular season with a franchise-record 103 victories before advancing through the National League playoffs and defeating Tampa Bay in the Fall Classic. For generations of Brewers fans, the championship marks the end of a long wait and delivers a moment the franchise and its supporters have been chasing since the team’s first years in Milwaukee.
