During the week ending February 22nd, the Merrill Police Department responded to eight incidents. Officers conducted approximately 69 traffic stops and 113 security checks. On Friday, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy requested a K9 traffic stop within city limits. K9 Dasty conducted a drug sniff on the vehicle and indicated a positive alert, and a syringe containing methamphetamine was located when the vehicle was searched. During the week ending February 1, the Merrill Police Department responded to eleven incidents, while officers conducted approximately 49 traffic stops and 63 security checks. Sunday, officers responded to the report of an individual who was reporting they had been involved in a physical altercation. Officers spoke with everyone involved and discovered the alleged female victim had fabricated the entire incident, and she was cited for obstructing. On Friday, a business reported a man pulled into their parking lot and started punching and slamming the doors of his vehicle. Though a description of the vehicle was provided, officers weren’t able to locate the vehicle. On Monday, a caller reported that two days prior while shopping at a convenience store a male companion who was with her became upset and slammed her vehicle door causing the window to break. During the week ending January 4th, the Merrill Police Department responded to at least nine incidents, while officers conducted approximately 32 traffic stops and 56 security checks. On Thursday, Officers and EMS responded to a residence for a reported overdose. A male party involved in the incident shared different names with officers, and investigation at the scene revealed there were warrants for his arrest. During the week ending December 21, the Merrill Police Department responded to eight incidents, while officers conducted approximately 24 traffic stops and 92 security checks. On Wednesday, an officer observed a vehicle that was going 67 mph in a 25 mph zone. During a traffic stop of the vehicle, the driver showed signs suggesting impairment. Following sobriety testing, the driver was arrested for 1st offense OWI. MERRILL – During the week ending December 14, the Merrill Police Department responded to eight incidents, while officers conducted approximately 18 traffic stops and 23 security checks. On Tuesday, officers arrested a man wanted on a Wisconsin Department of Corrections warrant. During a search, officers found narcotics and drug paraphernalia, including a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The man now faces additional drug charges. On Wednesday a woman reported that she accidentally left her cash at a store’s self-checkout, and another customer picked it up and used it. Staff recognized the customer, and officers contacted her. The woman said she took the money by mistake, and it was returned to the rightful owner.
