DNR Launches Holiday Boating Safety Campaign

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is stepping up patrols on lakes and rivers during the Independence Day weekend as part of the nationwide Operation Dry Water campaign.

From July 3rd through the 5th, conservation wardens will work alongside other law enforcement agencies to crack down on impaired boating through increased patrols, safety checks and public education.

State officials say alcohol continues to be a major factor in fatal boating crashes. Last year, alcohol was involved in one-third of Wisconsin’s 15 deadly boating incidents.

Boaters can expect to see more wardens on the water and at public boat launches throughout the holiday weekend. The DNR is reminding everyone to boat sober, wear a life jacket and help keep Wisconsin’s waterways safe for all. More information can be found on the Operation Dry Water website.
