A home in the Town of Merrill was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon, prompting a large response from fire departments and emergency crews across the area. The Merrill Fire Department was called to a home on Ackerman Road just before 3:45 Sunday afternoon after reports that the flames had spread beyond the structure and into nearby woods. When firefighters arrived, they found the house heavily engulfed in flames, with thick smoke pouring from the building and a brush fire burning alongside the roadway. LINCOLN COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT: SLOW MOVING VEHICLE CAUSES ACCIDENT IN TOWN OF SCHLEY

Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 50 traffic stops and 19 security checks. There were seven calls involving cars hitting deer, and one where a car struck a chicken. Deputies were dispatched to the Town of Schley Thursday in the area of State Highway 17 and County Highway G for a car crash that resulted in two injuries. Merrill Launches Patriotic Decorating Contest to Celebrate America’s 250th

The City of Merrill is inviting residents and businesses to show off their patriotic spirit with a community-wide decorating contest celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Participants are encouraged to decorate their homes, yards or storefronts in red, white and blue, with prizes awarded in several categories, including a Neighborhood Spirit Award for blocks or neighborhoods that decorate together. A self-guided driving tour will highlight participating properties, and photos will be posted on Facebook where the public can vote for their favorites. Merrill celebrated our Nation’s 250th Birthday in style over the 4th of July weekend, as locals, visitors and vacationers enjoyed community activities focused on remembering the sacrifices made by those who secured our freedom. Shoppers flooded the City’s East Side downtown section on Friday, where businesses took part in a “Red, White and Blue Sale” event. Bluejay Girls Defeat Crandon 14-0 at Home

MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT: MAN ARRESTED FOR ‘GROOMING’

The Merrill Police Department responded to 15 incidents during the week ending June 21st. Officers conducted approximately 23 traffic stops and 87 security checks. Monday evening, a report was received regarding a juvenile’s phone being taken by a male co-worker who then added the juvenile’s number to it. The individual proceeded to send harassing texts to her, and it was discovered he sent a sexual request to the juvenile and other co-workers came forward to report other conduct. Bluejay Boys Drop Double-Header to Plover

In a pair of games heard right here on WJMT and wjmtfm.com, a depleted Merrill Bluejays Post 46 squad dropped a pair of conference baseball games to Plover, losing the first game 13-0 in 4 1/2 innings and the nightcap after a short rain delay 12-1 also in 4 1/2 innings.  The losses saw the Bluejays record fall to 2-8, while the Black Sox of Plover saw their record increase to 8-6. DNR Launches Holiday Boating Safety Campaign

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is stepping up patrols on lakes and rivers during the Independence Day weekend as part of the nationwide Operation Dry Water campaign. From July 3rd through the 5th, conservation wardens will work alongside other law enforcement agencies to crack down on impaired boating through increased patrols, safety checks and public education. State officials say alcohol continues to be a major factor in fatal boating crashes. Last year, alcohol was involved in one-third of Wisconsin’s 15 deadly boating incidents. 67-Year-Old Prentice Man Dies in Worcester Lake Drowning Saturday

The Price County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding a drowning on Worcester Lake in the Township of Hackett on Saturday. A report was received at 4:30 PM stating a 67-year-old Prentice man had gone missing and was believed to be on the lake. Following a search of the lake conducted by multiple agencies, the body of the man was located, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 34 traffic stops and 24 security checks. There were 13 calls involving cars hitting deer. On Saturday, deputies were dispatched to the Town of Russell on State Highway 17 near County Highway X for a motorcycle vs deer crash.
